Iwona Chmielewska

Born on 5th of February in 1960 in Pabianice. Illustrator and creator of original picture books published around the world. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Her works have been exhibited at numerous individual and collective shows in Poland and abroad.

Her books have been published in South Korea, Japan, Spain, France and Germany.

 

Winner of many prestigious awards:

 

2007

Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustration in Bratislava (for the book Thinking ABC)

 

2011

Bologna Ragazzi Award in the Non-Fiction category (for the book A House of the Mind: Maum with the text Kim Hee-Kyung)

Nomination for the Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis prize (for the book Blumka's Diary)

IBBY’s 2011 Book of the Year in the book-design category and a special mention in the literature category (for the book Blumka's Diary).

 

2013

Bologna Ragazzi Award in the Fiction category (for the book Eyes)

 

2015

Nomination for the Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis prize (for the book abc.de)

 

2018
